Opening Times
Hexham Old Gaol is closed for the winter and will reopen on Friday 29th March 2024.
Our normal opening times are Wednesday to Sunday between 10am and 4pm. We are open every day during the Northumberland School Holidays and on Bank Holidays.
Admission Price
Pay once and enjoy unlimited repeat visits for 12 months.
Adults: £5
Multiple Adults purchased at the same time: £4.50
Concession (Over 60s and Student Card Holders): £4
16s and under: Free
You can also buy a Museums Northumberland “All Sites Pass” which also allows unlimited visits to Woodhorn Museum and Berwick Museum and Art Gallery.
You can buy your admission in advance online or when you visit.
Organised visits from sheltered or supported accommodation groups are entitled to FREE admission. Please telephone 01670 624524/23 to book before visiting.
If you are a UK taxpayer you’ll be helping to support Museums Northumberland, since we will claim Gift Aid on your admission, worth £1.25 extra on top of every £5 adult ticket sold, at no additional cost to you. If you choose a £16 All Sites Pass, we will receive an additional £4 from the UK Government.
Accessibility
Hexham Old Gaol is fully accessible with the use of a central lift that gives access to all floors and rooms.

Facilities
There are no public toilets or baby changing facilities at Hexham Old Gaol. Our Customer Hosts will be able to direct you to the closest toilets. There is not a café on site, but there is a good range of places to eat or have a picnic in Hexham town centre.
Parking
Public parking is available at Wentworth, just a few minutes’ walk away from Hexham Old Gaol.
Dogs
We are a dog-friendly museum. Assistance dogs and family pets are welcome at Hexham Old Gaol.
Directions and Transport
The Old Gaol is 0.5 mile from Hexham train station and less than 0.5 mile from Hexham bus station.
