Learning / Learning Loans Boxes

Museums Northumberland offers a selection of loans boxes for schools to use.

Loan Boxes can be borrowed from Museums Northumberland for 2 weeks. To reserve a loan box, please contact learning@museumsnorthumberland.org.uk stating the loan box you would like to reserve, where you would like to collect/drop off the loan box, and the date you would like to reserve the loan box from.

Look through photographs and use books and toys to explore play in the past.

Suitable for KS1 pupils.

Seaside Memories

Look through archive photographs, books and costumes to explore seaside themes.

Suitable for KS1 pupils.

Little Engineers

Role play at engineering with 3d shapes, gears, simple machines, construction pipes and construction dress up.

Suitable for EYFS/ KS1 pupils.

Our Bodies

Compare human and animal x-rays, models of the human body, and explore a selection of books on the history of, and careers related to medicine.

Suitable for KS1 and KS2 pupils.

Flodden

Discover the border battle from 1513 using historical maps and period costumes.

Suitable for KS2 or First and Second level pupils.

Medieval Medicine

Learn about herbal medicine in the past by mixing ‘healing pouches’ and dressing up as a medieval friar.

Suitable for KS2 or older First and younger Second level pupils.

EaRL Robots

Learn simple coding using our EaRL floor robots and instruct them to move around our mats.

Making and Building

Role play as mini engineers with high vis vests, hard hats, simple tools and our Makedo cardboard construction tools.

River Tweed

Explore the habitats found around the River Tweed. Go on a bug hunt, use simple scientific equipment, discover life cycles of plants and animals and learn about salmon fishing in the local area.

Gather data for your own experiments using our data loggers. Measure light, temperature and sound by using them on their own or install software and use with a computer.

Berwick Seaside

Explore the Berwick seaside, find out about marine vessels and investigate floating and sinking. Includes a selection of shells, toy animals and books as well as a copy of L.S. Lowry’s painting ‘Beach Scene’ which is thought to be of Spittal, Berwick.

Connecting straws

Let your imagination go wild with our connecting straws construction kit with enough straws for the whole class.

Hexham Riot

Explore storytelling by young people from Queen’s Hall Arts’ Projectors Theatre Group inspired by the 1761 Hexham Riot.

Suitable for SEN or KS2 pupils. Developed thanks to funding from the Wellesley Trust Fund through the Community Foundation serving Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.
