International Volunteers Day 2021

05/12/2021

International Volunteering Day

Today we celebrate volunteers across Museums Northumberland!

Our volunteers are vital in supporting Museums Northumberland week-to-week. They are incredibly dedicated to helping our museums achieve their missions and we would like to take this opportunity to let everyone know how appreciative we are of their efforts.

Like many organisations this past year we have had to embrace different ways of working due to the pandemic. Throughout these changes, our volunteers have shown exceptional dedication to develop new digital skills that have supported us to process over 500 object images during lockdown.

When we finally decided to have our volunteers back on site from June 2021, we couldn’t have been more excited. Lots of planning and new procedures for safe onsite working were put into place, which our volunteers adapted to admirably, allowing us to work on exciting projects like:

Accepting new donations

Cleaning historical objects

Online training and conferences

Curating displays

Object research and writing blogs

Over the months our volunteers have gone on to find new employment, finish degrees, juggle work, life alongside volunteering. They are truly remarkable!

Please join us in giving a BIG THANK YOU to our volunteers, who have each helped make 2021 at Museums Northumberland a truly brilliant year:

  • Maurice
  • Eleanor
  • Lucy
  • Chloe
  • Kelly
  • Arlene
  • Zoe-Marie

We couldn’t do it without you!

Image shows Arlene, Kelly and Eleanor helping to co-curate our ‘Aye reet doon the pits’ display. You can view this display at Woodhorn Museum until March 2022.

If you are interested in volunteering with the collections team, please send an expression of interest to collections@museumsnorthumberland.org.uk
