Let us transport you to days gone by
Many of our artefacts were found in and around Northumberland – so our Archaeological Collections can truly bring to light day to day life at key moments in the region’s history.
See treasures, including many Medieval, Neolithic and Bronze Age pieces.
Our collections are made up of a huge array of artefacts from the region and across the world; there really is something for everyone.
Objects include Medieval pieces, stone heads unearthed where Berwick once stood, mysterious Neolithic ‘cup and ring’ marked stones and Bronze Age materials, including axes and Beaker Burials.
Due to Berwick-upon-Tweed’s history as a once thriving port, digs in the area have uncovered a large collection of pottery from all over Europe, which now take pride of place at Berwick Museum and Art Gallery.
Anglo Saxon grave covers can also be found in the Woodhorn Museum and Berwick Museum and Art Gallery collections.
With so much to explore – what will you see on your next visit?
Please note that not all of the collections in the care of Museums Northumberland are on public display. If you’d like to see an object in the collections please get in touch with us using the online enquiry form.
