Genozo Toothpaste Ornament

A vibrant blue Art Deco ceramic pearl barley glazed lion ornament advertising Genozo toothpaste. Made by Ashtead Potters Ltd who were active in Ashtead, Surrey between 1923 and 1935. Founder of the company Lawrence Weaver wanted to provide employment for disabled ex-service men who worked alongside a team of prominent designers. This design was created by the established designer Percy Metcalfe.

As a child Queen Elizabeth II was given an Ashtead ‘Christopher Robin’ set when her parents visited the pottery in1928. Sadly, because of the great depression and death of Lawrence Weaver the company went into decline and closed in 1935.
