Discover Northumberland's stories...

Come along and find out about Northumberland’s role in the world – past, present and future.

Our sites include some of the most important buildings in England – Berwick Museum and Art Gallery is housed in England’s first Barracks, Hexham Old Gaol is England’s oldest; Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum is situated in a Medieval building and Woodhorn Museum is located in a scheduled ancient monument.

As story-tellers, curators, collaborators and caretakers, we’re proud to offer amazing experiences for every visitor – bringing a contemporary take on major events in Northumberland’s history, whether that’s working with the YMCA to create our exhibits or displaying modern pottery and poetry related to Lindisfarne – we’ve got it all.

The Pitman Painters Exhibition galleries were the main attraction for us and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. However, the museum is far more extensive with very atmospheric recreations of life in the mining community as it was in the early 1900s. Well worth a visit.
