Workshops for primary schools

Partner schools on the Our Past, Your Future project receive a KS1 and KS2 workshop each year of the project.

These workshops combine aspects of STEM heritage relating to Newcastle, Northumberland or North Tyneside with examples of contemporary STEM in these areas.

Each of the workshops are linked to at least one of the following employment sectors:

  • Ageing and Life Sciences
  • Culture, Tourism and Creative Industries
  • Digital, Technology and Data
  • Energy, Subsea and Offshore

Career examples are also included and linked to the relevant characteristics needed for those roles, these characteristics can also be found in our STEM Person of the Week resources.

Robots at Work KS1 (1 hour – online)

What is a robot? How do local companies use them and why are they useful? What does a programmer do?

In this workshop we’ll be answering these questions and thinking about how we can program robots to do what we want. We’ll find out how technology has changed over time and your students will take on the role of a programmer to work out the code our Cubetto floor robot needs to complete an underwater mission to inspect some subsea pipes. They will help Cubetto navigate its way around a map of the ocean and reach the pipes safely.
