Early Years Story Time

Join us as we read Float by Daniel Miyares, make a boat, and learn how to test how well it floats.

The Our Past, your Future team at Museums Northumberland are proud to share our Early Years story time with you. Join us as we read Float by Daniel Miyares, make a boat, and learn how to test how well it floats.

To join in the activity, you will need:

  • Something to make a boat – why not try paper, kitchen foil or plasticine
  • Somewhere to test your boat, either a tub of water or a sink
  • Something to act as weights on your boat, for example: marbles, plasticine cannonballs or pennies work well
  • A towel to mop up any spills
  • A pencil and paper to record your results

Thank you to the publishers Simon and Schuster for permission to read the book online. This story will be available online until 30th June 2021.

Thank you also to the North East Film Archive for use of the Esso Northumbria footage. To watch a full-length clip of the launch visit: https://www.yfanefa.com/record/24314

We would love to see your boats and experiments. We’d also love to hear your memories of shipbuilding along the Tyne.

If you would like to share these with us please get in touch at: stem@museumsnorthumberland.org.uk
