Throughout the Union Chain Bridge project, children, teachers and families at 21 partner schools engaged with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) activities inspired by the innovative engineering and heritage of the Union Chain Bridge.
All activities were developed and delivered by Museums Northumberland in partnership with NUSTEM at Northumbria University. The overall aim was to build STEM confidence in the local community, to counter misleading stereotypes of STEM professionals, and to increase diversity in the STEM workforce, in order to tackle the national STEM skills shortage.
