Throughout the project, children, teachers and families at 17 partner schools will engage with STEM activities inspired by the innovative engineering and heritage of the Union Chain Bridge. This will be achieved through a variety of assemblies, workshops, family sessions, whole school projects and teacher CPD sessions in a cross-curricular approach.
The activities are being developed and delivered by Museums Northumberland in partnership with NUSTEM at Northumbria University.
The overall aim is to provide a long-term strategy to address the many issues currently facing STEM, such as the national skills crisis, and misleading media portrayals of STEM professionals, particularly with respect to female roles in careers stereotypically seen as masculine.
