Acrylic on canvas depicting Norham-On-Tweed, Northumberland by Scottish impressionist William Ferguson. Ferguson’s works were inspired by places he enjoyed visiting, such as East Lothian and Northumberland, and depict the landscapes of these areas, often focusing on harbour or townscapes. Ferguson developed his own painting style later in life after serving in World War Two. Most of his works were produced in the 20th century.
Not much is known about William Ferguson’s life. Berwick Museum and Art Gallery were bequeathed Norham-On-Tweed in the 1990s after he passed away.
