The Life and Times of William Shield

Special event

Sat 6th April, Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum

4pm £5.00/£2.00

Composer, Master of the King's Music, violinist and Northumbrian piper.

Born in Gateshead, William Shield (1748-1829) was a successful and respected composer of vocal, chamber and theatre music who performed alongside the greatest musicians of his day.  Shield became Master of the King’s Music, yet has received surprisingly little scholarly attention.  Amelie Addison takes a look at his life and work, while Stewart Hardie lends his fiddle to some of the tunes.
