See a wonderful collection of art and porcelain given to the people of Berwick-upon-Tweed by shipping magnate, Sir William Burrell.
Sir William Burrell started collecting as a teenager. After making a fortune in shipping, he created one of the most valuable private collections in Europe.
Although Burrell donated most of his collection to his home city of Glasgow, he never forgot his Northumbrian ancestry, and gave almost 350 items of fine and decorative art to Berwick upon Tweed, the closest town to his home at Hutton Castle.
This gem of a collection includes work by masters such as Degas, Boudin and Maris, ancient Roman and Venetian glass, Japanese Imari ware and Ming porcelain.
