Coal was formed by the petrification of peat swamps, and that peat was made from the decaying plants of the Coal Forests. Sometimes these plants left their imprints.
Scientists have learned a lot about ancient species of plants from these fossils, and they continue to make new and exciting discoveries.
As we look forward to our upcoming Coal Forest Season come & craft your own coal wonder by imprinting your own leafy design into clay.
This experience is included at no additional cost as part of your Museums Northumberland Annual Membership where children can visit for free.
Take full advantage of your Annual Membership and experience Coal Forest this winter at Woodhorn Museum.
