Home Educator Day

Thu 4th July, Woodhorn Museum

From 10am £4 per child per workshop

Visit Woodhorn and meet other families at our heritage-themed Home Educators day! 

Book a workshop to take part in with your child and get explore the Museum for the rest of the day!  

Workshop prices are £4 per child per workshop and accompanying adults are free. Spaces are limited and children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. Workshops are one hour long and will be led by members of our Learning Team. 

Our bookable workshops on Thursday 4th July are: 

  • Colliery Tours : A  guided tour around our colliery buildings. Discover how the mining shafts were sunk, why we have two shafts and why ventilation was so important in the mines. Suitable for all ages. 
  • 1930s Home Life: Time to roll up your sleeves and put on your pinny. Explore our 1930s kitchen then move to our learning room to have a go at washing clothes the old-fashioned way and learn how proggy mats were made. Suitable for ages 5 – 9. 
  • Working Down the Pit: Get dressed for a day of hard work down the pit. Experience the darkness and cramped conditions as you crawl through a tunnel. Discover the tools that miners used to work and stay safe underground. Suitable for ages 5+. Please note our coal town exhibition has dark and noisy areas. 
  • Tickets cost £4 per workshop per child and include entry for an accompanying adult into the Museum.
  • Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult during our workshops unless otherwise specified.
  • Accompanying adults are responsible for the behaviour of their children throughout the day.
  • Please book 1 ticket for each child taking part in the workshop, accompanying adults do not need a ticket.
  • At the time of booking, please make sure you have selected the correct date and time within the booking calendar.
  • Please take into consideration your availability, and any travel times that may impact on your visit as tickets are non-refundable.
  • Please bring either a digital or printed copy of your booking email in order to access our site and take part.
  • You do not need an annual pass in order to attend the Home Educators event if you have booked a workshop ticket.
  • We reserve the right to stop the activity or ask people to leave it in the case of behavioural issues or disruption.
  • If you are unable to use your tickets you are welcome to transfer your booking to someone you know.
  • Tickets for the Home educator sessions are non-refundable and non-transferrable by Museums Northumberland. In the event that Museums Northumberland need to cancel the event, refunds will be given.
  • We advise that you arrive at Woodhorn Museum at least 10 minutes before the start of your booked workshop. Meeting points for the activities are included in the workshop information. If you are a few minutes late, please speak to a member of staff and you may be able to catch up with the group if the activity has already started.

Our workshops have a limited capacity and each child taking part must have a ticket in order to take part in our activities.

Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult during our workshops unless otherwise specified.

Accompanying adults are responsible for the behaviour of their children throughout the day.

Some parts of our site are uneven and some of our activities will be outdoors so please come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear.

At Woodhorn we have a picnic area and café which you are free to use as well as our gift shop.

Our colliery buildings have ramp access, however there may be some areas that are not accessible for wheelchair or pushchair users.
