Museums Northumberland is offering free tours during the summer holidays. Join us to discover this buildings interesting (and rather grim) history.
Have a look around, find out more about the poor inmates’ daily chores and their bleak diet.
The tour will start at 2.30pm from Hexham Old Gaol and involve a 15 minute walk to the House of Correction.
The House of Correction tour is included within the admission to Hexham Old Gaol.
Because of very limited numbers booking is essential.
Dates and Times
The House of Correction Tours will take place every Sunday and Wednesday at 2.30pm during the Northumberland School Holidays (from Sunday 23 July until Sunday 3 September).

Tickets for this special tour are FREE and must be booked in advance as space is limited to 12 people per tour.
You must book a ‘general admission’ ticket for every adult, concessions and children in your group.

If you want to enjoy a visit to Hexham Old Gaol in addition to the tour of the House of Correction, we recommend you arrive at Hexham Old Gaol at around 45 minutes before the tour time to allow you time to explore the museum.

Due to the nature of the building, only the ground floor of the House of Correction is accessible to wheelchair users. The tour guide will have a folder of information and photographs of the first floor of the building.
The tour of the House of Correction is suitable for older children.
The total length of the tour is approximately 1 hour, including a 15 minute walk between the House of Correction and Hexham Old Gaol.
Hexham Old Gaol is dog friendly. Well behaved dogs are welcome on the tour, but please be considerate of the other people on the tour.
