The House of Correction in Hexham is a remarkable building, that is usually closed to the public.

Museums Northumberland is offering free tours as part of Heritage Open Days 2023. Join us to discover this buildings interesting (and rather grim) history.

Have a look around, find out more about the poor inmates’ daily chores and their bleak diet.

The tour will start at 2.30pm from Hexham Old Gaol and involve a 15 minute walk to the House of Correction.
