The Northumberland Miners' Picnic returns on Saturday 10 June 2023!
We are delighted to announce that the Northumberland Miners’ Picnic is returning to Woodhorn Museum on Saturday 10th June 2023.
The Northumberland Miners’ Picnic, is a jam-packed day out for all the family, rooted in our local heritage re-imagined with a contemporary twist.
10.30 – 11.15 Miners’ Memorial Service
11:15 – 1.00 Brass Marras – South East Northumberland Brass Bands
1:15 – 1:45 Blyth Tall Ship Sea Shanty Singers
2.10 – 2:40 Rock Choir
3:00 – 3:50 Northern Monkey Brass Band
4:00 – 4:55 New York Brass Band
All timings are approximate and subject to change.
Enjoy… a fantastic programme of performances on our main stage including our local ‘Brass Marras’, Newcastle Rock Choir, Northern Monkey Brass and New York Brass Band
Look out for… pop up performances including a Wildflower Walkabout with Curious Arts, Ednie Wilson on the Northumbrian small pipes and the Blyth Tall Ship Sea Shanty Singers
Get involved…. in our marvellous Mini Mela with family-friendly crafts and activities from GemArts running all day
Explore… the museum to enjoy hands-on activities including learning the science behind bubbles, nautical knot tying, how to play the Northumbrian pipes and caring for museum objects
Relax… and enjoy tasty treats whether you bring your own picnic, visit the Winding House Café or enjoy a bite from our special street food stalls
Remember… the people, places and industry that brought us the tradition of the Northumberland Miners’ Picnic at the Miners’ Memorial Service at 10.30am.
The main Cutter Building and heritage colliery buildings will be open to explore during the day.
Admission: to the Northumberland Miners’ Picnic and Woodhorn Museum is free. Parking £5.
Parking: is on the Event Field at Woodhorn Museum. £5 per car. Blue Badge/Accessible Parking is available in the main car park.
Bus: Free shuttle bus from Ashington Leisure Centre from 10am last bus back from Woodhorn Museum at 5.30pm.
Food and Drink: The Winding House Café will be open, and there will be a range of local food and drink producers on site including Barista Sisters, Crepes Gourmet, Scream for Pizza and Tandoori Naan Hut. Camerons Brewery will be serving a range of alcoholic drinks.
Only alcohol purchased on site can be consumed at the Picnic. Woodhorn Museum is a no smoking/no vaping site.
Assistance dogs are welcome at Woodhorn Museum. Family pets may also accompany visitors everywhere except inside the main building and the café. The Picnic is a busy and loud event so please bear this in mind when deciding whether bring your pet to the event.
Northumberland Miners’ Picnic Admission is free, but parking charge applies. (Picnic Day is one of the special selected community days when the Woodhorn Museum admission charges do not apply, but you can find full details about the Annual Pass and enjoy unlimited repeat visits https://museumsnorthumberland.org.uk/annual-pass/
