Speaker: Sue Threader B.Eng., Hon. DSc., C.Eng., F.I.C.E.
Date & Time: Tuesday 29th June 2021
Location: Zoom
About the event
Mrs. Threader will talk to us about the history of the site of the crossing of the River Medway in Kent, where there has been a bridge from Roman times. She will tell us about the Rochester Bridge Trust and its medieval predecessors, who have looked after the many bridges at this strategic site over the years. A respected civil engineer, she oversaw the recent renovation work on the bridge site which has obvious link to the current conservation of the Union Chain Bridge.
This is the fourth talk in a new series of online events presented by the Union Chain Bridge: Crossing Borders, Inspiring Communities project, inspired by the bridge and its environs.
About the speaker
Sue Threader is the Bridge Clerk, or Chief Executive of the Rochester Bridge, which recently has successfully conserved an historic bridge site. A Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Mrs. Threader graduated with a B.Eng. in Civil and Structural Engineering from the University of Sheffield in 1988. She worked for several local authorities as a civil engineer and transportation planner before joining the international engineering consultancy, WSP Group plc, in 1998 as a Technical Director. She was appointed as the Bridge Clerk (Chief Executive) of the Rochester Bridge Trust in January 2006. Earlier this year she was awarded the Freedom of the City of London because of her charitable engineering education works and her general dedication to the profession.
