A day of poetry at the Chantry, as part of Morpeth Book Festival 2024. Poets include local writers Katrina Porteous and John Challis, the New Delaval Writers and the Carte Blanche group

Poems by the New Delaval writers, inspired by the public artwork of forty illuminated sheep by Deepa Mann-Klers.
Carte Blanche 1045 -1130 (Tickets £5.00)
Carte Blanche is a writing group for women which has met weekly in Newcastle since 2009, with members drawn from Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire and Tyne & Wear.
John Challis 1130-1230  (Tickets £7.00)
Poet, editor and academic, John Challis, shares poems from his acclaimed debut, The Resurrectionists (Bloodaxe, 2021), as well as his latest pamphlet, Hallsong (New Writing North, 2022), written while John was writer-in-residence at the National Trust’s Seaton Delaval Hall.

Poetry by New Delaval Writers – The writers found rich ground for creativity in the stories surrounding Seaton Delaval Hall and its owners the Delaval family, and the industry-scarred landscape beyond its grounds.
Katrina Porteous Under the Ice 1400-1500 (Tickets £7.00)
Beneath Antarctica’s frozen surface lie vast mountains, valleys, lakes and volcanoes. This new audio-visual collaboration between poet, composer and scientists from Northumbria University takes the listener on a journey to an unseen world, exploring its implications for the climate. ‘Under the Ice’ includes a brief introduction for the non-scientist, stunning satellite images, poetry by Katrina and electronic music by Peter Zinovieff.
