The Berwick But-they-no-longer-fly Cabinet
By the artist Bethan Maddocks
11am – 12.30pm, daily during Weekends and Northumberland school holidays.
Create your own insect for our curious cabinet.
Today we are facing a huge decline of insect species across the world. Insects play an important role in our ecosystems, from feeding us to cleaning up waste.
Ecology is always changing, but sometimes human activity makes it change very quickly. The way we live, use energy and farm our food all impacts on the natural world.
Listen to the sounds you can hear in Matt Stokes’ sound installation ‘Beyond the Field’ and imagine what kind of curious insects might be making those sounds.
Join our Customer Hosts between 11am and 12.30pm to create your own insect. You can leave your insect here to be added to the cabinet, or you can take it home to keep.
Make up a story about your insect and why or when it became extinct.
This family friendly arts activity is inspired by the ‘Beyond the Field’ sound installation by Matt Stokes and the Berwickshire Naturalists’ Club’s Collection.
