The Ord Cross Exhibition

Exhibition

Daily, Berwick Museum and Art Gallery

Included with Annual Pass admission

Introducing the Ord Cross - discovered in 2019 by a metal detectorist on the banks of the River Tweed at Ord

When a special object like this is discovered it inspires us to ask…

What is it made out of?

How old is it?

Who owned it?

What clues can it provide to the past?

This tiny piece of Anglo Saxon jewellery is unlike anything else found of a similar age.

We are delighted to display the Ord Cross at Berwick Museum and Art Gallery where you can find out all about this unique object, reading the runes and Christianity in the 7th century kingdom of Northumbria.

Museums Northumberland is grateful for the support of the V&A Purchase Grant Fund, The Headley Trust, the friends of Berwick & District Museum and Record Office, Arts Council England and Northumberland County Council for making the purchase of the Ord Cross and the exhibition possible.
